* Does meditation only come by when sitting, breathing deeply repeating a verse? Is it possible to mediate while walking, cooking food, performing service?
I guess what is implied by meditation here is practicing awareness, When doing activities of the world, like walking or driving, one needs to pay some level of attention to the external world.
However, one can still "watch the mind" to ensure that we are not "getting lost" in thoughts.. i.e. when we are cooking, we are indeed cooking, not thinking about so many other things..
.As usual, mind is a villain in spirituality :) The moment we start watching (without any attempt to control the mind), the mind stops for some time, waiting for the next chance, to wander!
Again, "watching the mind" is not for everyone,,,It is very subtle..One can get disappointed quickly....Many find it much easier to chant a mantra instead, for example, or listen to some soulful music or watch one's breathing,,,those are not so subtle and hence may be easier.
* Is God a single omni-present omnipotent entity that is collection of all good virtues such as Love, Forgiveness, Righteousness, Power...?
All these are great descriptions of God but God is much more than this. It makes sense to human beings to see god in all good qualities.None has described God yet, because mind cannot understand God..Scriptures are brilliant attempts to describe God, at best..
In India, there is a concept called Kali, the fierce form of Goddess.. I never understood this for a very long time in my life...How can the destructive sides of the nature be part of god? It baffles commonsense perception of God,,but we do see such fierce forms of nature, occasionally, which must also be from the same Universal source.
Then there is this concept of gods and goddesses..there are HIGHER beings with god-like qualities of omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence...They can pretty much give whatever human beings want in their lives; and they are reachable with much less effort; as people are busy with their day-to-day stuff, they spend a small time and get some benefits.. Most temples are like this... The lower the beings, the lower is the efforts needed! something like going to the Mayor vs going to the president :) ..If we go to villages in India, you see a small temple, someone consecrated a being, and people go and worship there for some small things...they don't want enlightenment :) :) and such small beings cannot give it either.
..and we don't even want to speak about the worship of demonic forms (like the African voo doo etc) intended to cause harm to others :) :) In India too, there are lots of places where such worship is done...But from a soul's evolution standpoint, it would be disastrous to engage in the worship of such demonic beings..but in the high-lanes and by-lanes of spirituality, things can get pretty complicated :)
